Embed functional skills for Adult Learners

Do you embed functional skills for Adult Learners in your courses? Functional skills are the essential skills needed for English, maths and ICT, and are vital for young people and adults to participate in life, learning and work.

Functional Skills (use to be called key skills) are an essential and compulsory element in two main qualification routes for young people from 14 to 24; in apprenticeships and the Foundation Learning.

So, what about Adult learning, I was wondering if all Trainers added elements of Functional skills in to their courses.

Learndirect talked about Boosting business through Functional Skills in 2013

They sated “With a quarter of adults in some parts of England only having the numeracy skills of a seven to nine-year-old, Functional Skills are playing a key role in equipping today’s workforce with the skills needed in tomorrow’s world.”

So how have we got on? I wonder what the stats are now…. My research came up blank

I believe that we should be supporting Adults with functional skills every chance we get!

Take a moment to comment….

So, If you do embed functional skills for Adult Learners in your courses….
